Bilbao Memories

As has usually been the case in the last few years, the Basque Film Library-BASQUE COUNTRYko Filmategia is presenting films at ZINEBI showing the audiovisual heritage of the Basque Country and Bilbao. To mark the 30th anniversary of its production in 1979, this year ZINEBI 51 will be screening the short documentary Ikuska 3 Bilbao, which won the Golden Shell in the same year at the San Sebastián Film Festival, and pays tribute to its director, Antton Merikaetxebarria, who is now a film critic for the newspaper, El Correo. Many years ago and far from the stunning Guggenheim Museum and the emblematic buildings that now form the new face of our city, Ikuska 3 is an uncompromising portrait that provides vibrant evidence in pictures of a Bilbao plunged into the uncertainties of an endless political transition, neighbourhood protests, environmental pollution and industrial decline.
