GLOKAL
Two concepts are combined in the word that provides this programme with its title, which seem to explain everything or nearly everything that is happening (or is about to happen) on the contemporary cultural scene. As audiovisual tools have become universal, not only for recording or manipulating images but also for watching them, at the same time as this new reality has emerged, a generation of artists has appeared who have managed to subvert genres.
This has meant that more fragmentary films have burst onto the scene that have enabled new artists to create intermediate and hybrid forms somewhere between genres that appear to be closely linked, such as cartoons, comics, animation, videos, micro films and even new kinds of documentaries with constantly changing formal innovations.
These are filmmakers like Nico Vázquez and Eva Mateos, whose latest work we are presenting here, that combine different narrative codes and technical tools naturally and overtly, so they deserve to appear in the programme for this year’s 51st ZINEBI film festival.
