
Zürich 1928. He studied Literature, Philosophy and Sociology in Basel, Paris and Munich. In the year 1961, he started working in the movie industry, working for too many years in collaboration with Rob Gnant and June Kovach. Founding member of the Swiss Film Centre and Executive Secretary of the Association of Swiss Filmmakers. He was very active in film politics, developing also an important role as a film critic. Alexander J. Seiler is considered as the maximum exponent of the new wave of Swiss filmmakers from the 60´s, shooting films which arouse the social responsability and consciousness. The following works are outstanding among his filmography: Auf weissem Grund, Siamo Italiani- Die Italianer, Palaver, Palaver, Septemberwind-Migrantengeschichten. His short film In wechselndem Gefalle won the Golden Palm to the Best Short Film within the Cannes Festival in the year 1963 and two years later he was awarded with the Golden Mikeldi from the International Film Festival of Documentary and Short Film of Bilbao for the above mentioned film.
