SOFT FICTION: Unruly Imaginaries
- A project by Virginia Villaplana and consonni
- SOFT FICTION, created by artist Virginia Villaplana and the Bilbao-based art production company consonni, is a writing project exploring the relations between experimental film, the novel as documentary fiction, and criticism as cultural performance at different levels. Taking Chick Strand’s Soft Fiction (1979) as its starting point, the project includes various activities:
- - a films programme in ZINEBI 51, the 51st Bilbao International Documentary and Short Film Festival. - a mediabiography workshop, where people in a network deconstruct and create new, experimental narratives based on their biographical archives. - a video exhibition and a series of talks by women filmmakers at the Okendo Cultural Centre in Donostia-San Sebastián. - a publication on pleasure and desire construction, and on the dissection of the border between document and fiction.
