  • Bilbao. 25th November 2009. The director, scriptwriter and producer Freida Lee Mock, who won an Oscar for the documentary Maya Lin: A Strong Vision (1994), who has been nominated for the same prize on many more occasions and is a current member of the Hollywood Academy, in which she is one of those responsible for selecting shorts for the annual competition for the worldwide renowned award, established this morning the procedure and criteria that govern this complex selection process. The List of Winners of ZINEBI plays a part in this process as a collaborating festival. The representative of the Oscars was accompanied in her presentation by the filmmaker and film producer Jessica Sanders. Sanders was nominated for an Oscar in 2002 as the producer of the short documentary Sing! and winner of the Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Festival in 2005 for her documentary After Innocence.

  • The presentation also saw the presence of the director and scriptwriter Chris Jones. The British filmmaker spoke about his experience as author and editor of The Guerrilla Filmmakers Handbook, a publication which is a platform of reference among independent filmmakers worldwide since its first appearance in the nineties. Jones’ biofilmography includes works like The Runner, Interview with a Serial Killer and Urban Ghost Story.

  • The three personalities opened the ZINEBILAB seminar-workshop this morning, which will be held as part of ZINEBI, for the ninth year running, directed by students, young filmmakers and experts in audiovisual production. ZINEBILAB is organised with the collaboration of the Association of Basque Producers (EPE-APV), Media Antena Euskal Herria and the University of the Basque Country (EHU-UPV). This year, under the title of ECONOMIC CRISIS AND NEW STRATEGIES FOR CINEMA, it will focus on the production of low-budget images in the digital world.
